Leaving the window open when writing

September's book give-away is here...

Hi Reader,

My next book is nearly here! The Curious Reader's Field Guide to Nonfiction is in its final production phases. I'm awaiting proof copies and am so excited to hear what you think of it!

The Kickstarter campaign is still going. You can preorder your copy there, and get some other goodies not available from Amazon. You will probably get your copy before the actual release date!

If you've already pledged your support—thank you! And if not, check it out. The Kickstarter closes at the end of the month.

The project met its funding goal. This means that you will definitely receive any incentives you sign up for. (The coil-bound edition is proving popular!) It was even selected as a "Project We Love" by Kickstarter!

September's book give-away

This month's book should interest anyone who writes memoir or personal essays. It also inspired the September Writing Yoga exercise on braided storytelling.

The book is Stages: My Life in Stories by Jessica Robinson, and it's a delight to read. It officially releases September 24th, so you can be one of the first!

It's a memoir told as a series of self-contained stories. Jessica is a master storyteller. She holds our attention while using a variety of story forms, playing with screenplays and allusions to Greek myths. Study those stories for hints to writing your own.

To enter, reply to this email by Sunday, September 22nd and let me know you'd like a copy.

Writing with the windows open?

When you're deep in a project, sometimes you have to ignore outside influences. When you're still in creative mode, you need to be willing to take a broader perspective. It's like opening and closing a window as the seasons change.

This post explores the window metaphor and pulls out lessons for writing. What phase of writing are you in right now? Check it out and let me know.

That's all for now.

Until next time, happy reading and writing!

Anne
